You know, I’d like to take the next few words to encourage you in an area I think we all need to be encouraged in.
I hope this post finds you in a moment that you are feeling like a complete and utter failure. Hang with me. I want that because it means that it’s the perfect time for you to hear that you are a huge success (but even if you’re not in that place there’s never a bad time to hear those words).
I want you to know that you are successful and that your success isn’t tied to anything you are doing or not doing but rather is centered in how much you are loved. God loves you and that means you are more successful than anything in this world could ever make you.
I remember a time in which I was sitting in a large room with tons of people. It was actually the Voice of the Apostles conference a few years ago. I was watching the person on stage and wondering what it would be like to speak to the thousands of people around me. Yep, I was ignoring the message so that I could think about myself. Perfect.
Anyway, I really began to allow the voice of discouragement to get a foothold in my heart and it wasn’t long before I started to feel like a failure in everything I was trying to accomplish in my life.
But then God stepped in and showed me a picture of a large billboard. The billboard had my face on it and his next words were, “Many times you don’t see just how important you are to me but I want you to know that I have your face… Click To Tweet
As the picture vanished I leaned back and smiled. In that moment I was reminded that success isn’t about what is happening out the outside – the external things like speaking, book sales, and whatever else. Success is about recognizing just how much I am loved and adored by God. He defines my success; nothing else should have that ability.
I want you to know that the picture God showed me is true for you. God has your face plastered on a billboard in heaven and he points at it like an excited child who just made its mother a plant holder in shop class (I made my mom one of those and couldn’t wait to give it to her on Christmas.) The point is that he is so excited about everything you are and can become.
God doesn’t look at us as failures and so we never should either. I am a success. You are a success. We are a successful, love-filled people wading into the saturating waters of abundant LIFE.
So be encouraged. God loves you and has already defined you as a success; so don’t let anyone or anything attach a banner to you that reads anything different.
