I found the following piece the other day when I was going through my old files. I don’t remember ever posting it but it impacted me and I hope it touches your heart as well.
The Story Of A Girl
There was a girl who sought to know me. I came to her and she was on her knees weeping into the empty air. I appeared before her yet she did not recognize me. I held out my hand and she did not take it. She shook with fear. Hopeless and despair gripped her heart and refused to let go. Her gray eyes held no knowledge of love and no trust in my hands toward her her.
But my words were gentle as I reassured her it was going to be okay. She lifted her head. When I eased down next to her she didn’t move away. I carefully draped my arm around her and she didn’t shrug me off. The tears that rolled down her face were the same black that stained her heart. I wiped them off of her cheek with a stroke of my thumb. She hid her face in her hands. She couldn’t see how clean and pure she was underneath all of the dirt and mud and grime.
I asked her to look into my eyes and she saw me. But not just me, she saw herself – into the depths of who she really was. She found the child in her, so sweet and so free. The puddle of tears underneath her grew with each drop.
I inhaled and sent a warm breath over her. She straightened and her eyes transformed to the kind of blue the ocean keeps in its depths. The cloudiness vanished. A smile tugged at her lips and the audible sigh was her heart learning how to beat again.
“Here is life,” I told her. “It’s in me.” I brushed back a strand of hair that had fallen over her softening features. “Here is love, it’s in my arms. Your heart is mine and my heart is yours.”
She clung to me as all of the rags and stains melted away. Freedom took the place of hopelessness and despair. We danced out of the old and swayed into the new. I am Jesus and she is my bride.
