Though I’ve been operating in the prophetic for 15 years, it’s not very often that I hear God speak to me on behalf of a global audience. It’s even less often that I feel led to share publicly what I’ve heard. When I minister in the prophetic, it’s typically one-on-one rather than to a large group of people. And I’ve been fine with that. It’s where God’s had me and it’s been amazing.
Maybe things are starting to shift for me as I walk into the next season of my life and maybe this is just an isolated incident. Whatever it turns out to be I know one thing for sure – I have a heavy burden to release this word to as many people as possible. This is something the Lord has placed in me that needs to be birthed. The vision I’ll explain in a moment, and the word that came with it is critical for this hour, for this moment, and all the moments that follow.
I encourage you to pay attention. I pray that eyes of your heart, and your very core, will be enlightened to the hope, glory, and inheritance to which He has called you so that you can understand the limitless greatness, and power, that lies within you through Christ (Ephesians 1:18).
I was resting in the Peace of God when an image began to materialize in front of me. I watched it form into the shape of what looked to be a statue. The way that it rotated showed me that it had two faces staring off in opposite directions. There was no body to go along with the image. It wasn’t long before I heard the Lord speak a confirming word that seemed more important than I could catch at the time. It was, “Yes, the image is two-faced.” I then heard the Lord say, “One of the faces is bigger than the other.”
I instantly knew that I was looking at some kind of idol – some kind of demon god. I didn’t recognize it but I knew it was very important. So I tucked it away in my heart and waited to do anything else until I felt that my quiet time with God was over. Then I opened up google and typed in a description of the image I’d seen. There was only one result that came back.
Janus (or Ianus) is considered one of the most important gods in ancient Roman mythology. He is the god of beginnings and endings. He is known as the god of transitions, gates, doors, and doorways. Janus has two heads that face away from each other. One looks into the past while the other into the future. Because of this the month of January has been dedicated to Janus with New Years Day being known as the day of Janus.
As my awe grew at what I was finding, a heavy word was being laid in my heart. There are two parts to this word and I’m going to split the first part into two applications as it’s for two different types of people with the same problem – being two-faced Christians. I didn’t know this but apparently hypocritical Christians are often referred to as Janus Christians. So here we go.
- The self-aware
There are some who are very aware that their lives do not match what they claim to believe. It’s not for lack of knowledge that they are not living the life that Jesus modeled, rather it’s a lack of desire. They are happy (or think they are) with the way things are and aren’t looking to shake things up at all. There is too much to risk by taking on the heart and life of Jesus so they are content to let their lives be a cycle of routine church going with a fierce grip on the status quo.
They will claim the principles of traditional Christianity but turn around and trample on anyone in their way. The pain that they inflict is all around them and while some may be fooled, those closest to them see past the façade and into the reality of their hearts that have grown cold and hard.
- The unaware
This is a very interesting group of people and we all know them. All of us are probably in this group in one way or the other. These are people who have no idea that they are two-faced. The things they’ve been taught to believe by spiritual authorities or life experiences have led them to a pervaded perception of God and His character.
Because we always seek to imitate the god we believe in, the unaware hypocrites cause pain to the people around them (and themselves) but are typically blind to it. The reason is because they feel justified as they are only acting in line with the character they have come to believe God displays throughout the bible. They have no idea that their theology and actions are in direct conflict with the character of God fully revealed through Jesus.
2016 is the year the mind set of both these groups will be dealt a critical blow. This is not a word of harsh judgment. This is a word of love, revelation and restoration.
We are in the midst of a great reformation led by understanding who God is through the lens of Jesus. 2016 will see this escalate quickly.
The aware will be grieved by their actions like never before and come alive in the revelation of God’s mighty love for them. They will pour out their hearts on the alter of mercy and watch as the wounds they’ve created are healed.
Their own, personal wounds will also be mended as the Great Surgeon operates to remove the old and install the new. They are going to feel alive for the first time and revel in the refreshing that will come. They will no longer care that conformity to Jesus might mean losing some things. The sincerity of their hearts will be apparent to all who know them. Marriages and all manner of relationships are going to be healed and restored.
The unaware will have the blinders ripped off of their eyes. They will finally see the Father as he really is and throw off all of the old beliefs that kept the pervaded perception of God chained in place. The new revelation and sight will cause them to weep like children and children they will become once again. Freedom will reign in their hearts and lives like never before as families and atmospheres are transformed and renewed. There will be an increase in joy and laughter.
All of this will happen with greater frequency than we’ve seen in the past as the person of Jesus is elevated as the only one through which we understand the character and nature of God. All things that contradict the life and ministry of Jesus will fall away as we begin to understand the true nature of Perfect Love.
This is a critical part: All of this will happen as we choose to respond to the stir in our hearts to study the life and ministry of Jesus like never before. We must understand Jesus to understand the Father and 2016 will see the full revelation of Christ flow over the world like milk and honey.
Exist in the present
The second part of the word brings back something I mentioned earlier that confused me. The Lord told me that one of the faces of Janus is bigger than the other. As I continued to listen the Lord explained.
Remember that the faces of Janus point to the past and the future. It is always look back or ahead. All of us have had, or currently have, one of those faces that looms larger than the other.
For some the past is what keeps them chained. They can’t seem to escape the guilt of former choices they’ve made or the trauma of inflicted pain. Though they walk and live in the present, they exist in the prisons of prior years they’ve never been able to leave. Every decision they make, and what they choose to believe, is filtered through the pain of the past. There is no peace.
Others have set up lives in the future. There is no contentment with what they currently have as they are always looking to what they feel they should have or where they should be. They are detached from family and relationships as every action is one spent trying to make future desires a present reality.
The problem with goals and dreams is that they can become our source of value, our source of life. Those who live in the future have made their goals and dreams their idols. They serve these idols and sacrifice what they deem necessary in order to move into the future they have already prepared for themselves. There is no peace.
The Lord is saying that 2016 will see great destruction to the prisons of the past and future. We are being called to exist with Him in the present.
Those who have been locked in the past will experience the freedom they’ve been longing for. Wounds will be healed and hearts set free. There will be a great increase in the revelation of forgiveness and restoration of purity is a word the Lord has placed over 2016. Trauma will be healed once and for all and many will finally feel alive!
The future is a wisp of smoke and those who are trying to live there will come to understand that fact. Their eyes will be opened to the many blessings that are all around them and finally begin to live in the moments.
They will learn what contentment is and experience the joy and peace that comes with that revelation. They will understand what it’s like to walk daily with the Lord and feel the pure joy that releasing the future to Him brings. The quiet streams will be their secret place.
Janus is not the god of transitions, gates, doors, and doorways; Jehovah is. As we learn to settle in the present we will come to discover the paths God has prepared for us that we haven’t been able to see before.
There will be peace in the hearts and minds of so many who think peace is an unattainable ideal! 2016 will not be laid over a foundation of two-faced Christianity or those held in chains by the past and future.
2016 will be established by the person of Jesus and waves of revelation will flow over the world like never before. Janus will not rule 2016. Jesus will reign supreme.
